Employment Opportunities

EBHO has developed a reputation as one of the most effective advocacy organizations in the Bay Area, and we are hiring! We are seeking someone who cares about making a difference for the many people experiencing the East Bay’s affordable housing and displacement crisis, and who wants to work at the challenging but rewarding intersection of policy and organizing.  The successful candidate will fit in with and support our small and tight-knit staff team, as well as our dynamic and diverse network of members and partners. Working with EBHO means working with the best affordable housing experts and advocates in the Bay Area and being connected to an inspiring group of community-based-organizations, mission-driven government staff, grassroots advocates and resident leaders. Our team is diverse in every sense of the word, but united in our passion for social justice and our desire to make sure that everyone has a quality and affordable place to call home. We work hard but we are a workplace that values balance, self-care, family and community. Read on for our two opportunities.

Lead Organizer (full time)

We are seeking a team member to advance our award-winning Resident & Community Organizing Program, integrating resident leaders with our campaign and coalition work, primarily in Oakland but also with some regional representation. He/she/they will mobilize resident members and EBHO’s other members (nonprofit developers, housing advocates, etc.) in our local campaigns to win funding for affordable housing, change land use policies and models of development, advance tenants’ rights, and stop displacement.  The Lead Organizer will help to advance and shape our leadership development programs for low-income residents of affordable housing, including an annual Leadership Academy training residents and staff of affordable housing.  The Lead Organizer will also supervise (and have a lead role in hiring) a Resident Advocate who will support day-to-day resident engagement and leadership development.  The Organizer will report directly to the Executive Director and work closely with other staff.

The Lead Organizer will often serve as EBHO’s lead staff representative in Oakland coalitions on local community benefits and land use campaigns, building relationships with ally organizations, interfacing with decisionmakers, and engaging in dialogue with EBHO members about our coalition positions and strategy.

The Assistant/Associate (title dependent on experience) will assist EBHO with various research, communications and administrative projects, as described below. EBHO provides an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated and creative individual committed to affordable housing, community development and the non-profit sector. The Communications Assistant/Associate is a full-time, temporary non-exempt (hourly) employee.  The position is currently funded for six months, but there is a strong possibility of extending the position or converting to a permanent position, pending organizational funding and fit.
