1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
16450 Kent Avenue, San Lorenzo, CA 94580

KENT GARDENS is located in the Ashland neighborhood of unincorporated Alameda County. This 2 acre site is the location of the former “Plants Unlimited” nursery which was purchased by the Redevelopment Agency. The site has historical significance as it was owned and operated by a Japanese Family. Mercy Housing worked closely with the Hayward Historical Society to create a permanent installation detailing the Japanese-American owned flower nurseries in the Alameda area as well as their time spent . The property serves very low and extremely low income seniors (62+), made possible through an on-going operating subsidy from the HUD 202 program. This is the first development that mixed the tax credit program with HUD 202 financing.

All units at all levels are accessible and adaptable, eight units have repositionable counter tops in the kitchens, roll in showers, and two units have been designated as hearing impaired. Amenities include management and resident services offices, community room, wellness room, TV lounge, library and computer areas, landscaped outdoor space and tenant garden, on-site parking and laundry rooms. Some of the many green elements that have been incorporated into the design include a photovoltaic system, use of fluorescent lights, water saving fixtures, no-VOC interior paints, CRI green-label/low VOC carpeting.  Kent Gardens is a 84 unit senior community.
