East Bay Housing Organizations (EBHO) held its 13th Annual
Affordable Housing Week from May 8-17, 2009. Throughout Alameda and
Contra Costa Counties, 25 exciting events took place with over 1,500
people participating.
EBHO's 25th Anniversary Celebration kicked off Affordable Housing Week.
Over three hundred EBHO members and supporters celebrated 25 years of
EBHO's achievements and continued leadership. Speakers, State Senator
Mark DeSaulnier, Assemblymember Sandre Swanson, Councilmember Jean
Quan, and affordable housing resident Francine Williams, honored Save
Mount Diablo, Alameda Labor Council Executive Secretary-Treasurer
Sharon Conru, EBALDC Executive Director Lynette Lee, and Community
Economics for their outstanding partnership and commitment to promoting
vibrant, affordable communities.
EBHO, along with UC Berkeley's Center for Community Innovation and
Association of Bay Area Governments, and East Bay Community Foundation,
hosted "State of Housing in the East Bay: Crisis and Solutions", a
symposium which brought together advocates, non-profit developers, and
policy makers to develop a regional vision and local action strategies.
EBHO and the Community Coalition for a Sustainable Concord led a
community workshop on creating a vision for jobs and housing in the
reuse of the Concord Naval Weapons Station.
Other highlights included an affordable housing resident organizing training in Oakland; a foreclosure prevention counseling session in Pleasanton; affordable housing site tours and events in Richmond, San Leandro, and Hayward; a day of community service honoring Amy Hodgett in the City of Alameda; and a bike tour of affordable housing in Oakland.
Affordable Housing Week is put on every year by East Bay Housing Organizations during the second week of May. EBHO deeply appreciates Wachovia, EBHO's 2009 Title Sponsor of Affordable Housing Week, as well as the sponsorship of Union Bank of California, Citi, Comerica Bank, and Fremont Bank.
EBHO's Affordable Housing Week is only possible with the help and commitment of members, coalition partners, and supporters such as you. Thank you.
