EBHO’s Interfaith Communities United
(ICU) for Affordable Housing Organizes for Housing Sabbath, May 13, 14 & 15, 2011
ICU’s Housing Sabbath, taking place during Affordable Housing Week, is rooted in the values that we share across boundaries of religion, race, ethnicity, gender, and income levels. They are the common values of shelter for all persons, respect for our neighbors, appreciation for having a home, a place to belong, support and celebration of our diversity, fairness and our commitment to justice.
Housing Sabbath is the weekend of May 13-15, 2011. EBHO's ICU and its partners, Interfaith Committee for Workers Justice (ICWJ), Building Opportunities for Self-Sufficiency, and the Black Alliance for Just Immigration (BAJI) are seeking congregations and speakers to participate. Housing Sabbath aims to motivate congregations to address the crisis of affordable housing and to engage in EBHO’s campaigns for housing justice.
Congregations can sign up for a speaker for the service or for after the service. ICU has developed resources including sacred scriptures from various faith traditions, prayers, litanies and worship bulletin inserts.
