Congratulations on all those who worked so hard to preserve and protect affordable housing, renter's rights, and environmental regulations!
Bamboozle, hoodwink, mislead, trick, dupe, double-cross, betray...those are just some of the words used to Proposition 98. It attempts to feed off of concerns about the use of eminent domain to covertly pass something that would gut land use laws throughout the state of California- at the expense of hundreds of thousands of families and communities from Modoc County to the Mexican border.
The implications would be disastrous for residents of and advocates of affordable housing. Rent Control and tenant protections laws (such as Just Cause for Evictions ordinances) would be wiped off the books, and housing policies such as inclusionary zoning (IZ) ordinances would be overturned.
It doesn't just stop with housing too. Clean water statutes would be eliminated, and laws protecting the environment would be gutted... threatening our precious coastline and the survival of dozens of endangered species.
