Affordable housing advocates, labor leaders, community activists, and neighbors like you have been asking the Oakland City Council to respond to the affordable housing crisis with standard policies such as inclusionary zoning. Time and again, the Council has delayed taking action. They continue to lose critical opportunities to build affordable housing while more people are displaced out of their homes because of condo conversions and skyrocketing rents.
On February 19, 2008 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at City Hall, the Oakland City Council will hold a special study session on affordable housing. The Council will discuss various housing proposals, including proposals from Mayor Ron Dellums, Councilmember Jane Brunner, EBHO and the Oakland People’s Housing Coalition, and the Blue Ribbon Commission. SPEAK OUT NOW TO LET THE OAKLAND CITY COUNCIL KNOW THAT *YOU* SUPPORT AFFORDABLE HOUSING!
East Bay Housing Organizations is asking you to take the following actions:
1) Attend the hearing and bring your friends and family.
2) Send a note email to your councilmember *right now* with the following points:
- Don’t Kick Oakland Renters Out Of Their Homes – Strengthen the Condo Conversion Ordinance.
- Include Affordable Housing In All Oakland Neighborhoods – Adopt Inclusionary Zoning.
- Build Apartments Oakland Residents Can Afford – Increase Funding For Affordable Housing.
